Brain Health

Your brain is the key

The health of your brain plays a critical role in almost everything you do; thinking, feeling, remembering, working, playing and even sleeping. Like the body's muscles, bones, and other vital organs, the brain feels the effect of aging and begins to lose some agility as you get older. Through years of constant use and biological wear and tear, the brain gradually begins to diminish in its ability to produce four very vital chemicals. There four brain chemicals are what keep our body healthy and when low or out of balance, they create a falling domino affect on our entire body, compromising our health, making us sick and old. The good news is that we now know there’s a lot you can do to help keep your brain healthier as you age. The key to reversing aging, losing weight and gaining better health is to address your brain chemical deficiencies. These chemical are: acetylcholine, dopamine, GABA and serotonin.

Acetylcholine: Is the source of brain's ability to process and recall information quickly. If you are low in acetylcholine, you may have cravings for fatty foods, difficulty with memory and focus. This can lead to loss of brain speed and result in senility, Alzheimer's, dementia, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Dopamine: Is the source of the brain's power and energy. Without the right amount of dopamine, you might experience sugar and/or caffeine cravings, fatigue, lightheadedness, decreased libido and depression.

GABA: It ensures that brainwaves operate in harmony. When GABA is low, the person develops carbohydrate cravings, trembling, twitching, cold or clammy hands, chest pain or discomfort, restlessness, anxiety, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Serotonin: A vital brain chemical, when low, it leads to insomnia, carbohydrates cravings and weight-gain.

At Smart Aging ® we understand that the body may not be absorbing all the available nutrients from food, and supplementation with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids may be necessary. Proper diet and exercise are also important for brain health. More serious symptoms may require a combination of bio-identical hormones and traditional Western medications.
